Between Exact, Natural and Social Sciences – Summary of the BIP Programme "From Chaos to Harmony"

03.06.2026

From 6 to 15 May 2026, the international Blended Intensive Programme From Chaos to Harmony in Complex Systems took place at the University of Zielona Góra. The programme began with an online component on 6–7 May and continued with on-site activities in Zielona Góra from 11–15 May 2026.

This was the third edition of the BIP programme devoted to complex systems, implemented at the University of Zielona Góra during the years 2024–2026. The event also formed part of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the University of Zielona Góra.

Three university units were involved in the preparation and implementation of the programme: the Institute of Sociology, the Institute of Biological Sciences, and the Institute of Physics, represented by the coordinators Dr Sylwia Andrzejczak-Grządko, Dr Magdalena Pokrzyńska, and Dr hab. Sylwia Kondej, Prof. UZ. The collaboration between these units gave the programme a distinctly interdisciplinary character by combining perspectives from social sciences, natural sciences, and exact sciences.

As in previous years, the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences also played an important role in this year's edition. The programme involved staff members and collaborators from different institutes of the faculty: Dr Sylwia Andrzejczak-Grządko, Prof. Beata Gabryś, and Prof. Leszek Jerzak (Institute of Biological Sciences); Prof. Jacek Bojarski (Institute of Mathematics); Dr Bartłomiej Hes and MSc Martyna Dalecka (Institute of Sport, Tourism and Human Nutrition); Prof. Andrzej Drzewiński, Dr Stefan Jerzyniak, Dr hab. Sylwia Kondej, Prof. UZ, Sebastian Kruk, and Prof. Maria Przybylska (Institute of Physics); as well as Dr Karolina Rożko, Sangeetha, and Navaneeth (Institute of Astronomy).

The programme brought together professors, researchers, practitioners, and students from Poland and abroad, including representatives of partner universities from the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Ukraine. It included lectures, workshops, discussions, and field activities, demonstrating how the concept of complex systems can be applied across social sciences, exact sciences, natural sciences, and the humanities.
